Private 'Old Hall' Residence, grade II

Seventeenth Century 'L-plan' family home.

The project

This project is typical of what Capstone can do for owners of older properties. In this case we:

  1. Undertook a detailed report on aspects of the property showing signs of structural distress at the time of purchase.
  2. On completion of the sale, we followed through with detailed repair proposals needed, for the builder to work to.
  3. We helped get the Conservation Officers agreement for the work.
  4. We called in and checked the repair work once it had been completed.

The engineering challenges

In the case of this building, the main issue was loss of strength of the wonderful Seventeenth Century roof trusses, wall plates, and purlins, mostly due to past beetle attack (decay) and some ill-conceived past alterations.
